Arrows Reliability Trial 2017

Posted on 27th Nov 2016

Sunday 27th November saw the 2nd Reliability Trial of the winter season, this time a 50 mile ride from Bisterne with the Bournemouth Arrows. Five riders representing the NFCC, Peter Weaver, Phil Grant, Stuart Peckham, Graham Lenton and myself joined the 80 other riders that signed on. The weather was chilly but dry and the early stages were relaxed along the Avon Valley towards Woodgreen. Things warmed up a bit over the lumpy ground through Hale and Lover before Pipers Wait split the group further. Things really hotted up over Fritham with a nine mile average from the Roger Penny Way to the A35 of 24mph before settling down again through Rhinefield. The conversation was good and everyone seemed happy to ride up past Wilverley to Burley together. Spirits were high as we descended Braggers before the final few miles through North Ripley and back to Bisterne. Phil did his fair share on the front mid ride and I got lumbered for similar spell at the end. We finished the 50 miles together in 2hrs 34 mins with a 19.6mph average. Peter was in the first group off and finished not long after the rest of us in plenty of time for the group coffee and cakes in a respectable 3hrs. I think most people found it an enjoyable ride and we all came dressed for the day and well prepared. Navigating was good and the NFCC guys were easy to spot in club colours. Richard Parker also rode the course but started and finished near Lover. Strava details
