First Mixed 2UP : First Veteran

Posted on 16th Aug 2017

On a breezy Saturday afternoon in August I rode my first mixed 2UP on P311 near Ringwood with Bournemouth Arrows rider Michelle Walter. The weather had prevented us from having a full practice but we had tested our pacing as a warmup earlier in the week and that went OK. We both had our little concerns; communication, riding close, me going too fast and me going too slow. But it's a flat course and we both knew it well. Michelle is a very good rider for a lady in her category but we knew it would be a case of helping her get around as quickly as she could. On the day it went quite well. I rode the course to a power we thought would work and Michelle rode excellently, only starting to tire in the last quarter. Ideally we should have pushed on here but pacing is difficult when its your own body never mind someone else's. Our time of just over 24 minutes was around what we hoped for and gives us the opportunity to do a 23 if we ride together again. Overall we came 8th and Michelle won 1st Veteran. We also earned some valuable points towards the Sporting Time Trial series which will come in handy for me due to missing many of the events. It was a nice change and well done to Michelle for giving it a good effort.
