2018 Birthday Ride

Posted on 24th Apr 2018

For my birthday ride, I set out with a group of friends on a dry morning hopeful of a sunny day ahead. We set a reasonable pace, taking turns on the front, as we made our way on picturesque rolling roads towards Salisbury. Once around the town, the skies cleared and the countryside became particularly beautiful. Graham even forget to complain quite so much. The first real test was the Church Bottom Climb, a 1.2 mile gradual 4% ascent of an attractive valley that kicks up towards the top. It was then a case of getting to the charity café stop at Bishopstone in good time. A fast descent, through a few villages, another climb, another descent and we were there. The "pop up" charity cafes are a great idea and its good to be able to support them. After coffee, bacon sandwiches and cake we took on Howgate Hill and then enjoyed a quick ride back to Fordingbridge. Sharing some hard efforts with Phil G up Godshill, the Roger Penny Way and Fritham airfield, we made good progress and got home in plenty of time to watch the last 1/3 of Liege Bastogne Leige.
